One Resort Premium Resort (Hammamet, Tunisia)

I spent a week at the One Resort Premium in Hammamet (Tunisia) during autumn 2024.

I booked my holiday through the French online tour operator Voyage Prive, which is known for offering attractive deals, often with all-inclusive packages. With Voyage Prive, you can choose between booking just the hotel or opting for a full package that includes transport and flights.

For this trip, I was searching for the best value in a four- or five-star resort with either full board or all-inclusive service. It was actually my first time booking with Voyage Prive.

Among their Tunisian offers, the package for One Resort Premium in Hammamet (Tunisia) stood out as the most appealing option.

Strongest Points

  • beautiful beach
  • the lounge chairs in the swimming pool

Weakest points

  • First, the mattress was uncomfortably hard, which made it difficult to get a good night’s sleep.
  • Second, there was a serious issue with the kitchen staff: several members of the crew appeared to be sick, which likely contaminated the food. This led to widespread illness among guests. In my view, hotel management should have handled this promptly and more responsibly, as buffets are particularly high-risk environments when staff are unwell.
  • The service level was not what I expected from a four-star establishment. Employees were often shouting at each other in front of guests—behavior that may be culturally common in the region, but comes across as unprofessional to Western visitors.
  • Finally, the swimming pools were not heated, which limited their usability, especially outside peak summer.

TUNISIA

Hammamet is widely regarded as one of Tunisia’s top holiday destinations.

That said, traveling there in October proved to be a gamble. With the summer season drawing to a close, I hadn’t realized that October is among the rainiest months in Tunisia. The timing made the trip less enjoyable, and from my experience, I would not recommend visiting Hammamet at this time of year.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

The Voyage Privé package included a train journey from Brussels (Gare du Midi) to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, followed by a flight from Paris to Tunis. Everything went smoothly until my arrival in Tunis—where chaos awaited at the airport. (More on this in my review of Voyage Prive customer service.)

Fortunately, the return journey was much easier. I had a private taxi transfer arranged from the One Resort Premium to Tunis Airport, and everything went according to plan.

For reference, the distance from the One Resort Premium in Hammamet (Tunisia) to Tunis Airport is around 76 kilometers, which takes a little over an hour by car. The resort is also about 62 kilometers from Enfidha-Hammamet Airport, making that airport a slightly closer option.

All inclusive Package

What was included in my Voyage Prive package at One Resort Premium (Hammamet)?

  • 10 nights in a standard room (single occupancy).
  • Full pension: breakfast, lunch, dinner, plus beverages and alcoholic drinks (though I don’t drink alcohol).
  • Transport package:
  • Wellness perks:
    • The spa was run by a separate entity and you had to pay extra tu use the hammam).
    • One 20-minute massage was included in the package (choice of feet or shoulders). I chose the feet massage.
    • One hammam session was included in the package (the spa staff initially pretended they weren’t aware of this benefit, but with a bit of insistence, they honoured it).
  • Dining extras:
    • One dinner at the Italian restaurant.
    • One dinner at the Brazilian restaurant.

Room

Positive points:

  • The room itself was spacious and came with a private balcony, equipped with a table, two chairs, and a rack for hanging towels or swimwear.
  • The interior felt modern and recently renovated, giving it a fresh and comfortable atmosphere. The bathroom was clean, with a nice shower and excellent water pressure.
  • Another big plus: there was no noise from neighboring rooms, which made for a quiet and restful stay.

Negative Points

  • Despite the positives, the room also had several drawbacks.
  • The biggest issue was the mattress, which was far too hard, and the pillows were equally uncomfortable. In the bathroom, there was no soap holder in the shower, and the complimentary shower gel and shampoo were of poor quality.
  • While the television functioned, the selection of French- and English-speaking channels was very limited. Housekeeping also seemed inconsistent: the floor had visible stains on arrival (though it was cleaned properly later), and there were marks on the shower glass.
  • A few maintenance issues cropped up as well. The telephone wasn’t working initially, but it was repaired during my stay without me even requesting it. The shower water temperature sometimes fluctuated suddenly, which was inconvenient. Lastly, there was a small stain on the bedsheet, but this was quickly replaced once I pointed it out.

A Few Problems with the room

The bedroom table was not placed correctly and the phone wasn’t working.

Swimming Pools and Beach

  • Kids’ swimming pool
  • Swimming pool in front of the beach
  • Beach

One Resort Premium Food Buffet

Positive

  • A wide choice of meat and vegetables
  • a wide choice of desserts
  • A terrace

Negative Points

  • Overall, the buffet does not meet a 5-star standard.
  • Many dishes are repetitive, which limits variety.
  • The food lacks proper seasoning and is somewhat bland, particularly the pasta. Hiring a Western chef (from the US or EU) could help address this issue.
  • Breakfast is the biggest disappointment, as it lacks healthy options.
  • No bacon is offered. While this may accommodate Muslim guests, the majority of customers are non-Muslim and may expect it.
  • The fruit selection is limited, with poor-quality apples.
  • The yogurt tastes unusual and could be improved.
  • The honey is unclear in origin—it’s uncertain whether it’s industrial or organic.

Italian Restaurant Dinner

Italian Restaurant Feedback

  • The dinner was quite basic and felt inexpensive in presentation.
  • Portion sizes were very small, requiring a return to the buffet afterwards.
  • I visited the restaurant as part of the Voyage Privé deal, but based on this experience, I would not return.

The first dish: beef carpaccio

The dinner at the Italian restaurant was underwhelming. The portions were too small, and while the presentation tried to emulate fine dining, it ultimately felt basic and disappointing. I visited the restaurant as part of the Voyage Privé deal, but I would not choose to return.

The main dish: fish and rice
Dessert: Tiramisu

Review One Resort Premium Hammamet (Tunisia)

Positive Points:
The One Resort Premium is a four-star resort that has the potential to reach near five-star standards with a few improvements, particularly in staff training. The infrastructure is attractive, as the hotel has been renovated recently.

Negative Points:
The service clearly reflects a four-star level rather than five, which is understandable given the hotel’s rating, but there are several areas where staff performance could be improved. The level of English among personnel was often inadequate. For example, one manager said, “Sorry my friend,” when a more professional “Excuse me, sir” would have been appropriate.

The influence of Arabic cultural habits among staff sometimes affects professionalism. Some personnel were overly tactile, touching guests on the arm or shoulder while speaking, which is not standard in the hotel industry. Staff also tended to speak loudly, sometimes in an aggressive tone, and interactions among themselves could feel like arguments in front of guests. Additionally, staff behavior was inconsistent; they could appear friendly at one moment and distant or irritated shortly after.

Hygiene was a significant concern. A flu was circulating among guests and staff, and I observed several cooks working while sick. Proper protocols should have been enforced to prevent the spread of illness. Overall, personal hygiene and professional conduct among staff need clear improvement.

Million dollar question

Would I return to the hotel? Yes, provided improvements are made to the beds and hygiene standards. The infrastructure and location are excellent, but the beds and pillows are uncomfortable. The buffet has great potential, yet the cooks are not up to the expected level. A proper hygiene and illness containment plan should be implemented to prevent the spread of flu and other illnesses. If these points are addressed, the hotel could become one of the top destinations in Hammamet.
